Eugene Gloria is the author of four books of poems: "Sightseer in This Killing City" (Penguin Random House, 2019), winner of an Indiana Authors Award; "My Favorite Warlord" (Penguin, 2012), winner of the Anisfield-Wolf Book Award; "Hoodlum Birds" (Penguin, 2006), and "Drivers at the Short-Time Motel" (Penguin, 2000), a National Poetry Series selection and recipient of the Asian American Literary Award. His honors include a Fulbright Research Grant, a Pushcart Prize, a Poetry Society of America Award, and a Fulbright Senior Visiting Fellowship, among others. He has also received fellowships for residencies at MacDowell, Yaddo, Montalvo Arts Center, Willapa Bay AiR, Djerassi Resident Artist Program, Nawat Fes (Morocco), VCCA at Le Moulin à Nef (France), Fundación Valparaíso (Spain), Château de Lavigny (Switzerland), Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and Ragdale Foundation. He is the chair of the English Department and a professor of Creative Writing at 草榴成人社区.

Gloria earned a B.A. in Political Science and English from San Francisco State University, M.A. in English from Miami University, and MFA in Creative Writing from University of Oregon.

At 草榴成人社区, I lead creative writing workshops at all levels and also teach First-Year Seminar and literature courses on contemporary American poetry and Asian American poets and writers. As a teaching poet, I ask my students to find ways to surprise not only our readers, but also themselves in their writing. I remind them that in the art of writing poetry our allegiance is to the imagination. In our close reading of the literature assignments in creative writing workshop, I encourage students to devise ways to inhabit the English language, to make it their own, and engage the world through language.

Gloria has regularly served as a juror for numerous book contests, grant competitions, residency applications, and other resources of support and recognition for creative writers. He has participated in panels and presented workshops and craft talks at annual conferences of the Association of Writers & Writing Programs (AWP), Association for Asian American Studies, Midwest Writers Workshop, and other literary organizations.

At 草榴成人社区, Gloria served as the John Rabb Emison Professor of Creative and Performing Arts from 2019 to 2024 and the Richard W. Peck Chair in Creative Writing from 2006 to 2008. He is the chair of the English Department and a professor of Creative Writing at 草榴成人社区. He also serves as the Faculty-Staff Liaison for the Fulbright Program.
